Dr. Fernando Almeida-Souza holds a Technical Education in Chemistry from Federal Institute of Technological Education of Maranhão, Brazil; Bachelor's in Veterinary Medicine and MSc in Animal Science from State University of Maranhão, Brazil; PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology (2015) from Oswaldo Cruz Institute, Brazil. Currently is professor of Immunology at Master’s in Animal Science, State University of Maranhão, guiding master’s students of Master’s in Animal Science, and students from Veterinary Medicine School, State University of Maranhão. Also collaborates in Oswaldo Cruz Institute, Fiocruz (2017), guiding doctoral and master students of Tropical Medicine. Acts as a reviewer and member of the editorial board of international journals. Has research funding by FAPEMA, FAPERJ, CNPq and CAPES.
Dr. Fernando Almeida-Souza’s main research interests includes Pharmacology, immunology and pathology studies of zoonosis, with an emphasis in leishmaniasis; ethnobotanical compounds, in particular from Brazilian amazon, and synthetic compounds for leishmanial, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory and wound healing activity; in vitro assays, in vivo infection and treatment in murine and canine models, with the overall aim to identify novel drugs and targets.
